Composites Such As Fillers〈 Q&A 〉 » Back

Q1: Is agglomerated filler made by agglomerating spherical nano-fillers?

The new inorganic filler TWiNY (Ceramics Cluster Filler, patented in Japan) is composed of agglomerated almost spherical nano-fillers, which have been made harder by sintering.

Q2: Is the filler processed by silane treatment?
Are there any other products which employ agglomerated filler?

Yes, it is processed by silane treatment. Silane coupling conditions are optimized, and the filler is compounded with monomer with stronger chemical reaction. There is no other hybrid resin that employs agglomerated filler (as of August, 2011). However, the composite resin Supreme (3M) employs nano-cluster filler.

Q3: Is it easy to grind the agglomerated filler?

By adjusting the firing schedule, the surface of the ceramic cluster filler will be melted and sintered, but nano-particles are connected with each other at points. Compared with inorganic crushed filter, ceramics cluster filler is easy to grind.

Q4: Does TWiNY offer any Glass filler, like other brands do?

TWiNY filler is different from the inorganic crushed filler (glass filler) products made by other companies. It is an inorganic spherical filler produced by Yamakin on an original basis. Developing our own fillers lead us to succeed in developing ceramics cluster filler, and developing a whole range of special features.

Q5: Doesn’t nano-filler agglomerate?

Nano-filler agglomerates very easily. In order to prevent nano-filler being agglomerated, and to let particles scatter over the resin matrix, TWiNY has inherited Luna-Wing’s silane coupling technology.
